Going out on a high! Decommissioning and Waste Management in Christ’s College Cambridge
19 July 2010
ibc have held an annual week-long summer school in nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management in Christ’s College Cambridge for the last 25 years.
On Friday 2nd July Gregg Butler rang up a decade as Chairman of the course, and decided that 2010 was his last year!
Said Gregg “The secret of these courses is the terrific interplay between those attending and the speakers - both during the course itself, but also in socialising at mealtimes and in the evenings. This year had a great mix – with 7 nationalities, around 50:50 male/female, and a huge range of nuclear industry experience. The ‘coming out of their shell’ phase of the course took about 15 minutes, in fact by Grace (McGlynn)’s Stakeholder Engagement workshop on the Tuesday morning we had more output in 2 hours than some gatherings I’ve been in have managed in 2 days! After that the interplay was constant and stimulating. The organisation by Liz Hide and Gemma Capindale was exemplary as ever, and I really can’t see it getting better than this lot. So all in all, it’s probably a good time to bow out, if only to give my liver a rest’.
